Laurence Tribe @tribelaw - It's not every day that a major paper like
the Houston Chronicle calls on its state's US Senator to resign. But
then it's not every US Senator who's as shameful as Cruz. I wish he
could resign from the cohort of my former law students, but I guess
that'd involve time travel . . .

He needs to go. He's needed to go for quite some time. And frankly he's not alone in that..

It would do Americans good to remember that once apon a time, we did fire congress.

.. And we did it without invading the capitol and flying confederate flags therein...

50 Years Ago, Americans Fired Their Dysfunctional Congress

Like Obama, JFK and LBJ found their agendas stymied by a hostile
Congress, until American voters stepped in to demand change.

That was before MTV and Cable Channels, back when more people read
newspapers, delivered to their residences, and listened to news
broadcasts.

Republican Barry Goldwater was perceived as a war hawk then when he
ran for office of president. Just scanning, I didn't see this
mentioned in that article...the NUKE scare was a big deal back
then...people were building backyard shelters, and some new homes had
these constructed in basements.

"On Sept. 7, the Johnson campaign ran the famous "Daisy" commercial,
in which a little girl counting daisy petals fades into a countdown
and the image of a mushroom cloud, with Johnson's voice intoning,
"These are the stakes."

Congressional members tend to be focused on re-election, and I suspect
back then, how the federal pie is divided up. MIC, military
industrial complex, getting too much was Ike's concern.
